Something Old, Something New

July 1st, 2009

IBC_09-10_QB_150x150Unveiled at last!  Stampin’ Up’s new 2009/2010 Idea Book & Catalog is now available to order from.   Also available today are the 2009/2010 Celebrando Creatividad IB&C and the Fall/Winter 2009 Definitely Decorative brochure.  Let me know if you need a printed copy of any of these cuz I can hook you up! ;)   You can also view them online at my website or download a pdf version of them.  Links are available on the sidebar to the right –>

Tomorrow is my oldest daughter’s birthday.  This is the card I made for her using something old and something new.  The something old is - you guessed it! – my very favorite Designer Series Paper…. Parisian Breeze along with a few of the just-retired In Colors (Kiwi Kiss, Baja Breeze, Pink Piroutte) and double-sided Kiwi Kiss/Very Vanilla satin ribbon.  The something new is the new level 3 hostess set Wings of Friendship.  I have a feeling I’m going to wear this set out.   It’s just gorgeous!

Here’s a close up of it from the side so you can see how dimensional it is.  I popped the bird and both flowers up on Stampin’ Dimensionals and added a So Saffron mini-brad to the center of one of the flowers.

Important note:  I used the Scalloped Edge punch on the brown DSP strip.  For this week only, Stampin’ Up is offering this punch as their Deal of the Week for only $10.99!  Run, don’t walk, to get this exclusive SU punch if you don’t already have it!  You won’t find it at a better price!

Happy Father’s Day!

June 21st, 2009

Wishing not just my husband, but all of your husband’s, son’s, father’s, etc Happy Father’s Day!  This is the card I made for my hubby – the front says it all… he is a wonderful husband.

Nothing on this card is truly new, but the set I used for the main image – Nature Silhouettes - is new to me.  I earned it for free from Stampin’ Up!  Oh no – I take that back:  The ink used on the buck is Soft Suede – one of the new In Colors.

The grass & tree image was inked by pressing sponge daubers into the ink pads and then pouncing onto the rubber.  This lets me apply multiple colors to the image but also gives it a nice, soft appearance on the cardstock.  I inked the buck stamp up the same way.  If you look closely you can see it’s got a texture that almost looks like the buck’s fur.

The word “Wonderful” was heat embossed with white embossing powder onto chocolate chip cardstock and “husband” was simply stamped onto whisper white with chocolate chip ink, then punched with the small oval punch and layered under the silver Hodgepodge Hardware frame.

The patterned paper underneath it all is none other than my favorite DSP, Parisian Breeze.  I love that it’s got patterns in it that can be used for masculine cards.

Supplies:

Stamp Sets:  Wonderful Favorites, Nature Silhouettes
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Kiwi Kiss, Soft Suede, Versamark
Paper: Kraft, Whisper White, Chocolate Chip, Baja Breeze, Parisian Breeze DSP
Accessories:  Hodge Podge Hardware (silver), Kiwi Kiss double sided satin ribbon, Sm Oval punch, White embossing powder, heat gun, stampin’ dimensionals

Crushed Curry – Lesson Learned

June 20th, 2009

I was working on cards to go with the desk set I showed you the other day and for some reason I decided that Crushed Curry would make a nice card base for one of them.  I paired it with a scrap of Parisian Breeze DSP.  Oh my goodness…

Baja Breeze & Crushed Curry look terrible together!

How would you fix this card?

In Color Corner Bookmark

June 19th, 2009

Are you a Stampin’ Up fan? (silly question!)  Are you a YouTube fan?  Now Stampin’ Up’s on YouTube!

Here’s one of the latest video’s Stampin’ Up has posted to their YouTube page.  In it, Linda Hanson demonstrates how to make a neat corner bookmark.  Take a few minutes to watch it, then scroll down to see the one I made!

Did you like the video?  Head on over to Stampin’ Up’s YouTube channel to see more of them!   But before you go, here’s the bookmark I made after being inspired by Linda.  I used my new In Color’s and Wings of Friendship hostess set.  And because we’ve got the In Colors in markers this year, it was so easy to use different colors on each element of the bird/flower image!

I’ve also got a quick, but important, tip to share with you.  Don’t flip your project over into wet ink when putting adhesive on the back!  ;)
